ED CONTROLS HIS OWN DREAM AND CONJURES UP GUEST STARS TAYE DIGGS AND SINGING DUO HALL & OATES -- Ed (Tom Cavanagh) employs "lucid dreaming" -- in which he is in control of his own nocturnal dreams -- and reassesses his most recent romantic entanglements with Carol (Julie Bowen) and Frankie (guest star Sabrina Lloyd) sandwiched between bizarre encounters with film star Taye Diggs (from "Chicago," as himself) and singing duo Daryl Hall & John Oates. Josh Randall, JanaMarie Hupp, Lesley Boone and Rachel Cronin also star.
Ed reads in a book that he can control his dreams once he realizes he is, in fact, dreaming. He manages to catch himself in the middle of a dream and sort through some of the issues in his psyche. When he awakens, he confronts Frankie on their future.

Fine Food and Drink Duncan, owner of the Smiling Goat, wants to sue a competitor over the filching of his famous Appeteaser, the Skintacular. Ed eats peanut butter and pickles in an attempt to have a lucid dream. A nine foot tall Nancy eats aerosol cheese in Ed`s dream.
Ten Bucks Little Mike bets Little Ed ten cents to go talk to Barbara at Jeff Jacobs`s bar mitzvah.
Stubbs Schemes Phil convinces Ed to allow him to become President of the United States in the dream. He fires his stodgy vice president and replaces her with Mindy, a Victoria`s Secret model and decides to bomb Canada.
