Synopsis
When Ed`s cohorts advise him to remain friends with Carol, he makes another attempt to win over her newly broken heart, and later finds himself commiserating with Nick. Since attendance at Stuckeybowl has been low, Ed succumbs to Phil`s idea for the first ever Stuckeybowl commercial and in true Phil style, he takes charge, and creative license, as director. Meanwhile, in an effort to wisely use what little time they have together, Nancy tries to plan some mind-expanding activities with Mike.

Overview
Everyone is warning him against asking Carol out, but Ed feels that he is down to his third strike and must act before it is too late. He hires a skywriter to write "Be Mine Carol" over Stuckeyville High. He has to do some quick thinking once he gets into an argument with her just before the job is to be completed. To boost attendance at Stuckeybowl, Ed decides to film a commercial. Phil takes on the directorial role; Ed turns down the first concept (strippers) - what will Phil`s final "masterpiece" look like? Nancy tries to plan quality time with Mike, including Oprah-style book readings and a lesson in the theory of relativity from a local professor. Ed takes the case of a bride-to-be suing her hairstylist over a badly botched attempt at a "Martha Stewart" haircut.

Songs

Trivia
Who's Godfrey?
The history teacher that asks Carol out at the beginning of the episode is named Godfrey.

Cast & Crew In-Jokes
The name of skywriting king Jack Fundus is a tribute to the show`s key grip, Kenneth Fundus.

Ten Bucks
At the Smiling Goat, Mike bets Ed that he can`t walk up to a woman at the bar and offer to buy her a drink - with beer nuts in his mouth. (Ed up $20)

Stubbs Schemes
Phil takes over the production of the first-ever Stuckeybowl commercial (sporting a fake goatee), and although Ed rejects his first ideas for the ad (strippers), he manages to come up with a puzzling 30-second TV spot featuring himself as a wide-eyed high-school graduate and Kenny as his father. The only mention of Stuckeybowl is in the last few seconds. Shirley considers it to be the best commercial ever.

Fine Food and Drink
Mike brings home all the fixin`s for "frites"--Belgian fries--to assuage Nancy`s desire to make their lives more interesting and meaningful. Nick explains to Carol that they can`t be friends because "when you can`t eat the cake and have the cake".
