Ed helps middle-aged client Willie (guest star Kevin Pollak) try to patent a machine that makes bacon more "bacony." Willie later has a near-death experience which revitalizes him so much that he vows to live life to the fullest at every turn and do everything he hasn`t yet -- such as scale a building, and date Molly. While Ed is obsessed with matching any deed or athletic achievement from his teenaged years, current high school student Warren tries to impress Jessica with his studious knowledge of Henry David Thoreau`s simplified lifestyle. In addition, the ever-enterprising Phil urges Ed to cut him in on a percentage of Stuckeybowl`s profits.
Ed`s client, Willie Johnson, returns to his lab after Ed agrees to help him with the patent process. After an accident which nearly cost him his life, he goes on a "living spree"--doing all manner of crazy stunts, because he never has before.
Molly`s love life is on the front lines, as Willie asks her out to dinner. After a fabulous time, they share a kiss, and later Willie brings her flowers at school. Unfortunately, he decides to leave town in search of high adventure, but promises to send Molly a postcard. Later, over lunch, the gang eggs Molly on when Jeff Alexander coems in. Molly takes the plunge and asks Jeff out, giving him her phone number.
Carol`s high school class is doing reading groups, and she assigns Jessica and Warren to the same group. They read Walden, by Henry David Thoreau. While Warren initially tries to impress Jessica with all his knowledge about the book, he eventually really gets into it, as does Donna, a female classmate. The two spend the night together atop Mt. Precipice, seeking to live simply.
Ed has an early midlife crisis, on discovering his old journal. He wants to be able to do everything he was able to do at age 18, and goes out to prove that he can. He winds up exhausted or sick in several cases.

Ten Bucks Mike bets Ed he`ll give him 10 bucks to give him 10 bucks. Ed turns it around and bets Mike he can`t give Ed twenty bucks for ten bucks. (Ed up $60)
Legal Update Ed agrees to represent William Johnson, an inventor who has created more "bacony" bacon. Though his patent never quite sees the light of day, Ed later represents him twice in the courtroom on charges of disturbing the peace--winning once and losing once. Mr. Johnson looks forward to spending a night in jail. Ed`s record is now 7-5.
Stubbs Schemes Phil wants Ed to cut him a percentage of Stuckeybowl`s profits. When Ed refuses, Phil engages in a variety of schemes to make Ed want to give him a share. He listens to self-improvement tapes and dresses up like Ed. Finally Ed consents to give Phil a cut of the shoe rental profits.
Nicknames Phil calls himself "Stanley Glick" when making mail order purchases to avoid receiving junk mail and being placed on telemarketing calls.
Cast & Crew In-Jokes On the "Two Pie Club" wall, the photo to the right of Ed`s is none other than Rob Burnett. The one to the left? Jon Beckerman, of course!
