Stuckeyvillians Unite! "You have way too much time on your hands." - Rob Burnett, 4/17/2001 Stuckeyville is a thriving community of Ed fans; 3,000 registered members and growing. Our goals are to provide a place for long-time fans to interact and talk about their favorite show, initiate new fans to the wonders of Ed and Stuckeyville, and provide the most in-depth Ed resources available on the web. We have been featured in Entertainment Weekly (which gave us an A rating in their "What to Surf" section), TV Guide Online, and numerous newspaper articles and "cool site" lists. What (and who) is Ed? Ed is, without a doubt, the finest bowling-alley/lawyer television show ever produced. The show revolves around Ed Stevens, a New York City lawyer who, in a single day, loses his job (over a misplaced comma in a contract) and finds his wife sleeping with a mailman. Ed deals with his failure and rejection by regressing into his past - he spends a beer-soaked evening with his high school yearbook, and takes a trip back to his Ohio hometown of Stuckeyville. Once there, he works up the nerve to ask out the most popular girl in his high school class, Carol Vessey, who has been dating Ed's favorite English teacher for seven years. He also resumes acquaintances with old friends Mike and Nancy, who are now married and coping with work and parenting in the new millennium. On his final night in Stuckeyville, Ed has a date with Carol, and they share a short kiss near the Pond, an old Stuckeyville hangout. He is so overjoyed that he buys the local bowling alley, if (only as an excuse to stay in town and be close to her. In his haste, he does not initially realize that he has inherited a bowling alley that is only active on league nights, as well as a staff of goofballs. Eventually, he moves in with Mike and Nancy, and sets up his own law practice in the Stuckeybowl pro shop. He increases traffic by giving out free law advice to anyone who bowls three games. But Ed insists that he is no "bowling alley lawyer" - in his own words, "I own a bowling alley, and I'm a lawyer - two separate things." Will Ed and Carol get together? Will they be able to carry on a relationship despite hardly knowing eachother? Will Ed ever deal with the fact that he's living in the past? And perhaps most importantly, is everyone in Stuckeyville insane? Tune in Wednesday nights on NBC at 8 to find out. Ed is produced by David Letterman's Worldwide Pants company, and is the brainchild of Letterman proteg‰s Jon Beckerman and Rob Burnett. There are widespread reports that Dave himself is involved in the creation of the show, and Ed reflects his Late Show sensibility - more reliant on sight gags, running jokes and wacky, out-of-the-blue references than the mainstream laugh-track sitcoms. As a result, Ed is not for everybody, and its laid-back, quirky style has been compared by some critics to the cult favorite Northern Exposure. However, the show has attracted a growing and devoted fan base that are drawn to its memorable characters, gentle tone and warm humor. NBC is solidly behind "Ed", as shown by their massive ad campaign during the Olympics and their recent early renewal of the show for the 2001-02 season. However, as all Sports Night and Freaks and Geeks fans know, "quality" television is always an easy cancellation target for a cost-conscious, ratings-hungry network. if (you love the show, please contact NBC and let them know. Please feel free to explore Stuckeyville, and drop a line if (you have any questions, corrections, or suggestions on how to make the site better. - StuckeyKyle |
